Holy hell do i love grime, its pure chaotic, manic energy. Beats that sound like dancehall reggae programmed by space aliens and blasted out of the trunk of a time traveling delorean with rapid fire lyrics. grime is to rap what grind is to metal. jacked up, add'd out , over caffeinated mayhem. Its a damn shame no one in the states is really looking for it.
last weekend i caught a set by Matt Shadetek playing grime and dancehall anthems and while dudes selection and cutting was top notch the crowd did not respond as they should have. and by that i mean i only saw like 2 or 3 gun fingers, not counting my own. no one completely lost their shit. and generally people sorta stood around politely bobbing their head. thats fucking insane in my book. i understand most heads were not there for the grime, but if you chillax even a lil and let the sub bass move you you'll be gun fingering in no time.
in my mind grime is best delivered and appreciated as below, with way too many dudes in one room music crazy loud and the ever present threat of a fight breaking out hanging heavy in the air.
Ghetto On The Mic 1st, Spyro(?) on the Decks
