Amazing commercial for nike football directed by michael mann (Heat, Miami Vice).
the thing that gets me about this is how it uses the visual style of 300 with the ramping up and slowing down of the film to get that hyperkinetic feel to it. but this ad is far from a cheap ripoff of that outstanding movie, but instead just incorporates that element and mixes it with the the things that mann does well already. namely his great camera angles and use of color lighting to create mood. the moment that really makes it for me is at 37 seconds in, after the trip tackle the slowness with which merriman gets up and the push in to closeup their really sells the idea of exertion and perseverance in the face of exhaustion. the last shot of shawn jackson pushing the pile to the outstretched touchdown is fucking brilliant as well.
