The Cool Kids are the truth.
While initially I really didnt want to have anything to do with hipster rap from a group called the cool kids, i drastically changed my mind once i heard their music. far from being merely some fashion rappers who saw a couple of videos on VH1 soul school, these dudes are actually pretty nice on the mic. their style is really an amazing amalgm, one the one hand aesthetically they are styled on a retro tip. circa '93 or so. starter jackets, jordans, cross colors, bright ass colorways. beatwise they take alot of influence from both the minimalist bass heavy produciton of early Rick rubin and from the slowed down vocals of southern rap. at times they also throw in some laser sounds and weirdness which reminds me of the weirder Neptunes moments (grindin, drop it like its hot, click clack). Lyrically they stay mainly on bragadocio and occasionally chicks, but all within their own spectrum. no songs about the ice on their wrists instead songs baout how ill their bmx bikes rims are.
if there was any sorta justice these dudes would get some sort of national attention. they could easily be played next to Souldja Boy or young Joc or Lil Mama.
