I REMEMBER THE DAY THE SUN WENT OUT

"our mission, reignite the sun before its too late"
Usually if I were to hear the above line in a trailer i'd assume we have a new TBS classic on our hands, akin to the The Core or The Day After Tommorow. but with Sunshine we have Danny Boyle of Trainspotting, 28 Days Later, Millions fame directing and a cast that includes Cillian Murphy and Chris Evans (the only redeemable part of the Fantastic Four movie besides Jessica Alba's physique). While the plot sounds Saturday afternoon matinee at best, the cinematography and pacing looks positively opening Friday night. From what the trailer shows the industrial design of the ship they're on is on some refined minimalism jumpoff of 2001 or the Sodenberg Solaris. The shots of crewmembers dying gives a feeling of horror that I hope they get into real deep.
When i was a kid i read The Stars My Destination which is a story told by a guy floating in empty space in a space suit after he teleports off of his ship in a hurry. and for some reason slow asphyxiation and abandonment always struck me as one of the most horrific elements that you could play with in sci fi. and while its been a minor point in many a sci-fi movie from 2001 to Event Horizon to Deep Impact its never really been a huge note. I'd love to see the tension and uneasiness you could create by watching a dude in a suit slowly unravel and fall apart as the gravity of his situation hits him. And a couple beats in this look like they might give us that. In any event something to look forward too whenever its actually released in the US
